History: It is a royal monastery, Woramahavihan built in the 17th Buddhist century during the reign of King Arthitayarat, the King Hariphunchai 33. Initially,
Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahavihan was the King Arthitayarat’s Royal Palace. The area around the temple consists of inner and outer walls. Later, after the king donated his palace as a temple for Buddhism, the outer wall was removed. According to Lanna ancient belief, a pair of Singhas (a mythical Thai animal: half human being-half lion) was built at the east door as guardians.The interior consists of Phra Borom Chai (พระบรมชัย) the Chedi (stupa) is enshrined Buddha's relics, one of the eight greatest Chedis in Thailand. Krom Phraya Damrong Rajanubhab announced that these are the most sacred places in Thailand, and it is the first Chedi of Lanna Thai.
